The rugs are important element of any room because they serve as a nice and aesthetic element. However, they also act as a home to thousands of different species of bacteria that could cause health problems to the family members.
Fortunately, you can protect your family, if you clean and maintain the rugs regularly. It is a quick and easy process.
All you need for this purpose are the appropriate green cleaning products and some spare time.
Here are 4 tips for perfect rug cleaning
It is essential to vacuum the rugs regularly, if you have hardwood floors. The rugs that you use on the high traffic areas near the front doors should be carefully cleaned with vacuum’s suction feature. Avoid using the beater bar, as it sucks up small fibres and will wear away your wool rug.
Rotate the rug
The backside of the rug is often ignored. You need to flip the rug upside down at least once a month to thoroughly vacuum the back and remove the dirt and dust that is trapped between the rug and the floor. It is not a problem to use a beater bar on the back because it will not damage the fibres.
Clean the stains immediately
If you spill food or drinks on your rug, blot the spill immediately using a clean, white cotton towel. Press the towel down very hard from the outside of the spill to the middle. Blot repeatedly until you have absorbed as much moisture as possible. Avoid rubbing as it will push the stain into the rug and cause permanent damage. When the excess moisture is absorbed, you may treat the area with the appropriate cleaning products.
Use only appropriate products
Always check the labels of the rugs before you apply a carpet shampoo or spray. To protect the fibres and the colours of the rugs, it is essential to use only cleaning products that are approved by the manufacturers. If you are not sure what kind of cleaning approach to apply on the carpet, you can use or consult with professional carpet cleaning company. The professional rug cleaning will ensure all the dirt, dust and bacteria are perfectly removed from the rug and your home is safe for your family.
When it comes to cleaning products, why don’t you go for
They are cheap and eco-friendly. See some recipes for natural cleaners:
The cleaning power of baking soda is not limited to the deodorising fabrics. You can use it as a non-abrasive degreaser to clean the plates and oven.
Sodium carbonate is much safer than other chemical agents. It is very efficient in the removal of grease and odours neutralisation.
The acid in lemon juice neutralises the highly contaminated water, dissolves the dirt on wood (cutting boards) and clears effectively the silverware. Instead of lemon you can use white vinegar. You can eliminate the unpleasant odour from the kitchen bins by washing them with water and vinegar mixture.
Stain cleaner for fabrics
Mix equal parts white vinegar and salt. Rub the surface of the fabric to remove the stains. The mixture can be used to clean the stains on the rugs, furniture upholstery and clothes.
Mix 1/2 cup of borax powder with two gallons of warm water. Add a few drops of fragrant essential oils and put the mixture in a spraying bottle for easier application.
To remove stubborn stains from the bathroom rugs, use sodium carbonate and then rinse well. For easier cleaning, mix one cup sodium carbonate in warm water and add a few tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice.
